Interactive Brokers announced on 18 August 2026 that it had collaborated with Paysafe’s SafetyPay to add a new account-funding method for eligible clients in Latin America. Clients can transfer local currency from personal bank accounts to their IBKR accounts and then access products including stocks, options, futures, currencies, bonds and funds through the broker’s unified platform.
Institutions and key facts
Interactive Brokers says the integration is intended to simplify the path from local bank accounts to global markets. Its release refers to access across more than 170 markets, but does not list every supported country, bank, currency, fee or processing time for SafetyPay funding.
SafetyPay forms part of Paysafe’s Latin American payments business. Paysafe’s public corporate filings describe it as a platform supporting transactions across multiple Latin American countries. The arrangement is a payment-channel integration, not an acquisition by Interactive Brokers, and does not mean every client in the region automatically has identical access.
The announcement does not change the contracting relationship between a client and the applicable Interactive Brokers entity. Nor does it say that every deposited local currency becomes an account base currency without conversion. Availability should be checked in the client portal’s funding instructions and against local bank requirements.
Impact on traders and brokers
For Latin American traders, local bank funding can reduce the operational steps associated with traditional international wires and may reduce uncertainty caused by intermediary banks. Convenience does not mean zero cost: bank charges, payment-provider fees, FX conversion, processing times, limits and refund routes still require review.
Funding should originate from an account in the client’s own name and follow instructions generated inside the IBKR portal. Payment details supplied through unsolicited messages should not be treated as official.
For brokers, local payment networks are becoming important market-access infrastructure. They also increase the need for source-of-funds checks, transaction monitoring, failed-payment handling, refund controls and accurate client communications.
TraderVote view
The significance is not a new trading instrument but a shorter path from local money to a global brokerage account. Funding experience can affect client conversion, while operational quality still depends on transparent costs, traceable settlement and effective exception handling.
